Ah yes, a perfect week. This has been an idea of mine since I started this blog way back in mid 2011. Basically, it is a week where I will watch comedy live, every day of the week. Well, most likely in the night.
So starting on Friday (cause I start a week whenever I want okay!) will be my first perfect week. Here is the plan.
Friday Night – Comedy at Synergy
Saturday Night - Comedy at Synergy
Sunday Night – Comedy at Beefcakes
Monday Night – Comedy on long at Zula Bar
Tuesday Night – Dirty Jokers at the Jolly Roger
Wednesday Night – Jokers Comedy at Sabrinas / Fugard Comedy Fest
Thursday Night – Jou Ma se Comedy Club at the River Club.
I will keep you updated through the various forms of social media (mostly twitter, does g+ still exist?) and if you want to join you are more than welcome of course. Buy me a beer and we can laugh together.

The Fugard Theatre Celebrates the Silly Season with a Fest of Comedy
Just received this press release. Sounds rad!
Sensational Funny Man Alan Committie heads up and hosts a star-studded comedy line-up as the Fugard Theatre proudly presents its very first Fugard fest of Comedy, from 29 November to 17 December.
Alan and his Comedy Committee of Rob van Vuuren, Carmen Maarman, Hope Maimane and Jo Galloway will treat audiences to a three-week festive frolic on the Fugard Theatre Stage. In a deliciously hilarious comedy revue romp, this team of many talents reflects on a long 2011, and is sure to have audiences laughing well into 2012.
In the spirit of holiday season overindulgence, the Comedy Committee will be joined every night by yet another funny friend, in a line-up that will see the cream of the comedy crop gracing the Fugard stage. Mark Banks joins the ranks for the first week, and will be up to his usual uncontrollable madcap antics from 29 November to 3 December, an additional 17h00 show has been added to Saturday 3 December. Skirtin g around relatively taboo topics with charm and ease, comedy doctor Riaad Moosa will split your sides and keep you in stitches at the same time, when he joins the gang for the 6th, 7th and 10th December. During the final week, 12 to 17 December, Stuart Taylor brings his intelligent comedy magic to the mix to round off a fantastic season of laughs.“…it’s time to laugh. It has been a long year with so much happening in it - particularly at the Fugard Theatre. I think it is time we all kick back and allow some of the country’s finest funny people to let us slip into the holiday season. The Fugard Theatre is going to be buzzing during this fest of comedy! Come and join us for a sundowner in our rooftop tent overlooking the city and the glorious mountain...” says Daniel Galloway, General Manager of the Fugard Theatre.
With a team that are no strangers to local and international stages, this promises to be much more than stand-up silliness - although a little bit of that never goes amiss, and seems a perfect way to celebrate the arrival of the silly season….
Generous discounts are offered for advance group bookings of ten or more and for Friends of the Fugard. Tickets cost R100 – R140, and are available through Computicket.

And just like that...
...it's weekend!
This week on twitter I spoke a lot about David Levinsohn. I had people asking me, who is David Levinsohn? Well, now you know.
David Levinsohn taught us about the internet when the internet was just a myth.
Enjoy the weekend.

The racist comedian debate
Where is the line? A comedian asked
this week, what comes first, the racist comedian or the racist crowd? Another
has said that any joke based on a cultural stereotype is racist. We have all
laughed at a joke that could be seen as a bit racist before. Chris Rock, one of
the world’s best and most loved comedians, is no stranger to having jokes that
are mostly based on black stereotypes. Don’t believe me? Get a white person to
do the same exact same set in front of a black crowd. Then we will talk again.
Okay, it is a bit of a cheap shot to
mention Chris Rock. But he fits my argument pretty well. He is a black
comedian, doing black stereotypical joke, and making black people laugh. So
where is the racism? Racism isn’t just black and white either. People of all
colours can make jokes about all the other people and their colours, while all
the people of the other colours will laugh. I mean, we are all just laughing
right?
We have coloured comedians doing
jokes about not having coloured people not having front teeth. This particular
joke I find a little offensive. But then I asked my coloured friends about it
and they don’t see it as racism. In fact, I have had coloured friends at gigs
and they laugh harder than me at some of the more questionable jokes.
Thoughts?

And just like that...
...it's weekend!
The trailer for the movie Material was released this week. It is by the director of Jozi, which is my favourite south african comedy by far. So I am excited to see this one. Especially since it seems like it takes a look into the world of stand up comedy in South Africa.
I am not really so sure about that voice over. Trying to be a bit too much hollywood for my liking.
The movie stars Riaad Moosa as well a Joey Rashdien. There also seems to be some cameo's from other stand up comics like Nik Rabinowitz and Deep Fried Man.
Then there is also Skeem starring another local favourite Kurt Schoonraad.
So the future of South African comedy in the movie cinema seems to be in good hands. Time will tell.
Enjoy the weekend.
